SELF-IMPROVEMENT: I Can't Stop Lying Original Letter I think I might be a compulsive liar I lie and keep lying about having a dead brother. I'm disgusted in myself and I can't help but live within this lie I have no idea what to do I have a boyfriend who lost his dad and I'm here lying about someone who doesn't even exist being dead What am I? Help me Elder Response You could well be a compulsive liar, Shan. I do not know what you have tried to stop lying. I take it that you have tried something and it has not worked. My best recommendation is for you to see a professional therapist who can help you find the cause and resolve it. He or she may be able to provide some suggestions on how to avoid lying. It is good that you recognize that you have a problem and admit it's not right to be lying and to me that is a start. Please go and see a professional that can help solve your problem. I am confident that you can overcome this by the simple fact that you are aware of it and do not approve of such behavior. That is a good indicator that you are a good person, in my opinion.
