DATING/RELATIONSHIP: Connecting with a Crush

Original Letter

Hello! So, I recently went to a church camp and met a girl. She's all that I've been able to think about and I recently saw her about two weeks ago. Now, keep in mind that we have never spoken to each other before. When I last saw her I'm not even sure that she saw me. She knows I exist and all that, but I doubt that she cares. Please help! It feels as if she's so close but out of reach.

Elder Response

I think the best thing for you to do, Athena, is to try to make contact with this girl.  Do you have a mutual friend?  If so, call/text that person and see if she would be willing to arrange a meeting.  You can say you met her at camp and she appeared to be the kind of person you'd like to know better.  Maybe your mutual friend can set up a meeting date (lunch or a movie that the three of you might enjoy doing together).  That would be a good way to get to know her and vice versa.

If she is contacted and flatly refuses, you have lost nothing.  There's an expression:  Nothing ventured, nothing gained.  I think you should venture out, find a way to contact/meet this girl and then see where that takes you.  Be confident in yourself.  Based on your letter, you sound like a fine person who many would be pleased to have a relationship with.

Don't be afraid to take the first step.

Best of luck to you Athena!

Best Regards,

KMF
