FAMILY: Haven't Heard From Dad, And Am Concerned

Original Letter

Hi, I am a little worried about my dad. He usually calls us or send us messages around the holidays, but this winter I have not heard from him. I have tried to call him and I have sent emails and text messages, but I have not received a response. My dad is somewhat paranoid, some of his paranoia might be justified, but a lot of it is in his head. He was also using drugs in the past few years, but the last time I saw him in the summer he was pretty sober. I'm thinking about it now, and he did mention the possibility of going to France, but if he did he never told me he left. I suppose he wouldn't need to tell me if he did, and for all I know he doesn't have his American phone line if he is in France. My dad was not really there for us growing up (I am in my twenties now), so my brothers and my mom do not talk to him. I am not sure what to do, but I do not think it is an emergency at this point. His parents are passed, so I do not know who to reach. He lives in Florida while I live in Texas. I think I will wait to do anything, but I am tempted to tell my mom I am worried. I mentioned it to her on Christmas, but she shrugged it off. I am trying to rationalize with myself, and I would appreciate input or advice. Thank you.

Elder Response

We are a group of seniors living in a commuinty. We will be answering your letter collectivily.

Knone, we understand that this can be a stressful situation and we think you should talk to you mother about how you are feeling and your concerns.  There might be a chance she knows of someone that might be able to reach your dad.

If that does not give you any positive results the only other course of action we can think of would be to call the local police department in your dad's town and ask them to do a "well check" on him. Ask them to let you know if it appears he has not been there for some time. Most police departments offer this service for people who are worried about family members or neighbors..  We really hope your dad is okay and that you reach him soon.

We hope this helps. Feel free to write anytime, Knone.

Best Regards,

Silver-Belles
