This letter writer asks some deep questions.
Our elder’s advice: Be kind and brave.
Dear EWC
Why are we living? I can’t understand. The space between birth and death is called life. this life may be short or long. We do not know if tomorrow will be our last day. What is the purpose of living? If we work hard, we will be successful. But what happens if we have an accident after the day, we fully succeed !! What happens to all this hard work? Actually, I have lots of friends. but none of them are true friends of mine. We talk, study, etc. with each other. But actually, I don’t trust them. I don’t share anything about myself with them. At this time, we are in quarantine. We can’t meet each other. I feel free without them. I feel that I’m acting a character when I’m with them. Actually, I don’t like any of my friends. My mother is a very good woman. I used to share everything with her. But she is busy with homework and her job. I feel that I’m giving her pressure when I talk like this. Now I stopped telling this nonsense to her. I don’t know what to do. I have lots of school work piled up. Actually, I’m under pressure. Please help me to get motivated.

You ask some very deep questions. There are many philosophers who have contemplated the meaning of life since the beginning of time. Here’s my perspective on the subject. It’s not a definitive answer, just my perspective and hopefully it will give you some things to think about.
I believe that each of us is a spiritual being who has been placed on this earth to have a human experience. That human experience is intended to help us grow. Life takes many twists and turns. The beauty of life is that we never know what’s next. That keeps things interesting. If you knew everything that was going to happen in your life, it would be pretty boring. The only thing we can do is to live our lives and stay curious about the future. Of course, in life there are things we can control and there are things we cannot. Do your part on the things you can control, and be open to what comes next.
As you journey through life, you are presented with many decision points. Based on the choices you make; different outcomes will result. Some of your choices help you to develop and grow while others may result in setbacks. If you’re ever feeling stuck in life, remember that you always have the choice to make a change to get unstuck and move forward. There is always a positive path forward. Over time you will look back and see some of your decision points and how they brought you to places you never expected. Of course, things happen randomly as well. That’s just part of keeping things interesting.
So that describes the human side of the experience. Now to the spiritual side. Think of yourself as a spiritual being having a human experience. Your spirit is the light within you. It is uniquely you and it’s much deeper than your personality. If you get real still and calm the thoughts in your head you can get behind your personality and start to get in touch with your spirit. Many people do this by practicing meditation. Just a few minutes a day of quiet meditation can be very helpful.
I believe that love is the ultimate purpose in life and that your spirit is the source of that love for yourself and love for others. The more you grow in love within you, the closer you will come to understand the meaning of your life.
What I just described is pretty deep and I understand that everything may or may not resonate with you. Take what makes sense to you and leave the rest. Develop your own philosophy of life. I want to leave you with some very basic advice that has worked for me. On your path through life always remember to: Be kind and be brave. If you base your choices and your actions on these two things, you will grow and move through life with love as I believe is intended. Let it flow. I wish you all the best.
